If you are holding the move button and hit shift, you stop moving entirely, but if you are holding the attack and move button and hit shift, you'll swing, and then just keep moving. Also shift is not rebindable, because even though it's obviously the attack in place key, it's not shown in-game anywhere. What is the point in giving us WASD movement, if there is no dedicated attack key? The only way to have attack without movement is by holding shift, which prevents you from moving entirely.
